Replit-code-v1-3b beats Codex despite being 1/5th in size
In a recent Replit Developer Day Keynote, CEO Amjad Masad showcased their new open-source LLM. The model was trained in just 10 days and easily beats any open-source LLM out there. For instance, it surpasses CodeGeeX in performance despite the model size being 2.7 B, whereas the latter’s model size is 13 B.
Why does this matter?
Replit’s CEO himself admits they weren’t expecting such an impressive performance. Recent developments, including this one, tell us LLMs are going to get cheaper and more sophisticated. And the costs will come down with such improvements, paving the way for interesting innovations in the field of AI by democratizing the technology.
PWC bets big on generative AI with $1B investment and collaboration with Microsoft
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) plans to invest $1 billion over the next three years to expand its AI portfolio, focusing on generative AI. In collaboration with Microsoft, PwC aims to develop scalable AI solutions using OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology and Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service. The investment will help clients reimagine their business workflows and streamline PwC's tax, audit, and consulting services. The partnership has already seen successful implementations across various industries, with plans to upskill PwC's 65,000 employees through its proprietary My+ program to leverage AI tools and capabilities.

Apple’s AI-powered health coach might soon be at your wrists
Apple is reportedly developing an AI-powered health coaching service called Quartz, aimed at helping users improve their exercise, eating habits, and sleep quality. The service will use AI and data from the user's Apple Watch to create personalized coaching programs, with plans to introduce a monthly fee. The company is also working on emotion-tracking tools and plans to launch an iPad version of the iPhone Health app this year.
Why does this matter?
It’s only a matter of time before AI is deployed on IoT devices such as smartwatches. This confluence can definitely revolutionize our daily lives. AI can direct IoT devices to adapt and optimize settings based on external circumstances making them a lot more autonomous and helpful.
