The House of Representatives gets 40 ChatGPT Plus subscriptions to experiment with AI
Congressional offices have started experimenting with AI. The House of Representatives' digital service has obtained 40 Licenses for ChatGPT Plus, which were distributed earlier this month. The House recently created a new AI working group for staff to test and share AI tools in the congressional office environment.
According to an internal AI Working Group email, the AI tool is expected to be used for various day-to-day tasks and key responsibilities. Some potential applications include generating drafts for constituent responses and press documents, summarizing text in speeches, drafting policy papers or even bills, and creating logos or graphical elements for branded office resources.
Why does this matter?
The adoption of OpenAI's ChatGPT Plus by congressional offices is a significant development, highlighting the growing influence of AI technology in the realm of policymaking and legislative processes. This move demonstrates a proactive approach to embracing AI tools and signifies Congress' intent to stay ahead of the curve in adopting emerging technologies. This news also underscores the importance of addressing ethical considerations and implementing appropriate regulations surrounding AI technology, as its use expands into the core of government operations.
Binance Introduces AI-Powered ‘Sensei’ Chatbot
Binance, the largest cryptocurrency exchange by volume, has announced the launch of Binance Sensei, an AI-powered chatbot for its Binance Academy. The chatbot, driven by OpenAI's ChatGPT, is designed to enhance user engagement with educational content by providing relevant and easily digestible information in response to keywords and natural language questions.
Binance Sensei is currently available in English and offers brief responses along with suggestions for three related articles. The company cautions that Sensei is intended as a facilitation tool, using content from Binance Academy or other reliable open sources, and is not meant to provide any form of specific advice.
Why does this matter?
While the technology certainly has the potential to simplify complex topics and improve accessibility to learning resources, it is crucial to remember that financial markets, including the cryptocurrency sector, are often governed by human emotions and sentiment. As more people turn to AI-driven tools like Sensei for their financial education, there is a risk of neglecting the importance of understanding market psychology, and the role emotions play in driving market fluctuations. Developing an intuitive sense of market dynamics and learning to interpret these emotional undercurrents is also a key aspect of successful financial decision-making.
Researchers scale Recurrent Memory Transformer to up to 2M tokens. ChatGPT-4 processes only 32k tokens
The Recurrent Memory Transformer (RMT) is a novel approach for extending the context length of BERT and other Transformer-based models in natural language processing. By incorporating token-based memory storage and segment-level recurrence, the RMT architecture can effectively handle extremely long sequences, up to two million tokens, while maintaining high memory retrieval accuracy.
This method allows for the storage and processing of both local and global information, enabling information flow between segments of the input sequence through the use of recurrence. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach, which has significant potential to enhance long-term dependency handling in natural language understanding and generation tasks and enable large-scale context processing for memory-intensive applications.
Why does this matter?
Compared to ChatGPT-4, which handles only up to 32k tokens, the RMT offers a significant improvement in context length, opening up new possibilities for natural language understanding and generation tasks. The linear scaling of computations required by the RMT enables it to process large-scale context more efficiently, which can be highly beneficial for memory-intensive applications.
This extended context length has the potential to enhance long-term dependency handling and improve the overall performance of Transformer-based models in various natural language processing tasks, significantly advancing the field and paving the way for more complex and sophisticated applications.
