Top AI scientists and experts sign statement urging safe AI
In a bid to facilitate open discussions about the severe risks posed by advanced artificial intelligence (AI), a concise statement has been released, urging the global community to prioritize mitigating the risk of AI-induced extinction.
The statement highlights the importance of addressing this issue on par with other societal-scale risks like pandemics and nuclear war. The call has garnered support from a growing number of AI scientists and notable figures from various fields, including Sam Altman CEO-OpenAI, Dario Amodei CEO-Anthropic, Demis Hassabis CEO-Google DeepMind, and many more.
Why does this matter?
Addressing the risks posed by advanced AI holds tremendous importance for both humanity and the global community. The engagement of AI scientists, along with notable figures from diverse backgrounds, not only highlights the growing recognition of the risks but also fosters a collective understanding that concerted efforts are necessary to mitigate these dangers.
Microsoft Team's Intelligent recap boosting productivity with AI
Microsoft Teams has announced the availability of intelligent meeting recap to its Premium customers. The feature shipped in May, with several features continuing to roll out over the next few months.
Intelligent recap leverages AI to automatically provide a comprehensive overview of your meeting, helping users save time catching up and coordinating the next steps. Found on the new ‘Recap’ tab in Teams calendar and chat, users will see AI-powered insights like automatically generated meeting notes, recommended tasks, and personalized highlights to help users quickly find the most important information, even if they miss the meeting.
Why does this matter?
The feature can help businesses reduce disruptions to employee productivity, strengthen protection against data leaks, and contribute to a culture of citizen developers that accelerates business digitization and innovation.

Only 20% of U.S. adults find ChatGPT very useful
According to a Pew Research Center survey, about six-in-ten U.S. adults (58%) are familiar with ChatGPT. Overall, 18% of U.S. adults have heard a lot about ChatGPT, while 39% have heard a little, and 42% have heard nothing at all. 14% say they have used it for entertainment, to learn something new, or for their work.
Americans’ opinions about ChatGPT’s utility are somewhat mixed. Roughly a third of those who tried it say it has been extremely (15%) or very useful (20%), while 39% say it has been somewhat useful. Around a quarter say it has been not very (21%) or not at all useful (6%).
Why does this matter?
How ChatGPT should be used has been hotly contested. However, this lack of uptake, despite the AI boom after ChatGPT, indicates that Americans are more likely to express concerns than excitement about the increased use of artificial intelligence in daily life.
Knowledge Nugget: How to Create Your Own ChatGPT Plugin
Let’s say you encounter a problem while using ChatGPT and want to tackle it, improving usability for everyone. The only questions then are how do you get access to the exclusive plugin alpha that OpenAI is running, and how do you go about creating a plugin for ChatGPT?
In this article, Weaviate shares a step-by-step process of creating a ChatGPT plugin with the example of the Retrieval Plugin they created (it augments ChatGPT with long-term memory). The process is quite similar to what one might take in creating a general plugin and, thus, quite instructive.
Why does this matter?
Plugins have great potential to expand ChatGPT’s functionality and greater when they help make up for a current shortcoming of ChatGPT. They become a powerful way for developers and researchers to contribute to improving LLM use cases without having to retrain the underlying GPT model.
